Third case of bird flu identified in Turriff area
A third case of avian flu has been detected in the Turriff area.
The latest declaration of a 3km protection zones and 10km surveillance zone was made at 4.45pm on Sunday, November 27 at premises near Turriff at Muirden Farm.
The site is located near to Ashogle just north of Turriff where a declaration was made last Friday and comes after another last Sunday at Strath of Brydock Poultry Farm, Alvah near Banff
These add to the existing zones Woodhead of Laithers meaning that the majority of the Deveron Valley from Huntly all the way to Portsoy is now within the zones.
Following completion of preliminary cleansing and disinfection, and mandatory surveillance requirements, Scottish Ministers declared the end of the Protection Zone on Sunday, November 27 at Logie Newton, the southern-most site.
The area which formed the Protection Zone has now become part of the Surveillance Zone, which remains in place.
Veterinary investigations are being carried out to establish the source of the latest disease cases.
The total means that over half of all Scotland’s avian flu cases have now been found in Banff and Buchan.
Speaking when last weeks cases were confirmed, local MP for Banff and Buchan, David Duguid said the situation in his constituency is becoming “more and more urgent” and has urged the Scottish Government to enforce the same procedure as England by keeping all poultry and captive birds indoors.
