Mountaineer Alex Moran to feature in north-east event

In August 2021, Alex Moran and Mike Coppock completed the first ever Island Munros Triathlon, in 32 hours and 22 minutes, scaling 13 Munros with 6461m of ascent, and covering 309km of distance between them.

The athletes dreamt up this epic and ingenious adventure with the goal of raising £10,000 for the Martin Moran Foundation in honour of Alex’s father, himself a well-respected mountaineer who died tragically in the Himalayas in 2019.

Never before had all 13 of the Scottish island Munros been attempted in a single non-stop push and self-supported, by running, cycling and swimming through the dramatic landscape of the north-west Highlands.

In his talks for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society’s Inspiring People talks programme, Alex will share spectacular images and stories from this substantial challenge.

Alex Moran will talk about his experiences during an event in Aberdeen.

Alex said: "I am excited and honoured to be asked back to the RSGS Inspiring People talk series this year, I can't wait to share our esoteric journey through the beautiful Island Munros of Scotland."

RSGS chief executive Mike Robinson said: “It’s great to have Alex back to share his stories of this remarkable adventure with audiences throughout Scotland.

"For many aspiring mountaineers it’s a challenge to complete Cuillin Ridge in a single trip, without adding an ascent of Blaven, a cycle trip and a swim to Mull and an ascent of Ben More to finish, and all against the clock.

"With the poignant backdrop of raising money in memory of his father, Alex’s talk is both touching and inspirational and I’d recommend it to anyone with an interest in the outdoors.”

Alex Moran is speaking for RSGS in Aberdeen, Dunfermline, Glasgow and Edinburgh in the week commencing Monday, November 6.

RSGS Inspiring People talks are open to all: tickets are free for RSGS Members, Students and under 18s and £10 for general admission.

Tickets are available to book online in advance at rsgs.org/events, and are available at the door (but for cash only).

Alex’s talk begins at 7:30pm on Monday, November 6 at the University of Aberdeen, Meston Building, Northern Entrance.
