After a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Borders drama group Duns Players will bring its play Colonel Anne: Jacobite Heroine to Braemar Village Hall.

There will be a single afternoon performance in the venue on Sunday, September 10 at 3.30pm

It is a rollicking drama set in and around Inverness during the Jacobite Rising of 1745.

Colonel Anne: Jacobite Heroine will be performed in Braemar Village Hall.

Colonel Anne, who was born a Farquharson at Invercauld, defied her husband, the Laird of Mackintosh, by raising troops for Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745 and saved the Prince’s life during a night raid known as the Rout of Moy.

Two years later she danced with "Butcher" Duke of Cumberland, victor of Culloden, at a ball in London.

Her courage and sheer independence deserve to be better known. This year is her 300th anniversary.

Was she in love with Alasdair Macgillivray, the warrior chief who led her troops into battle?

Did she have a dalliance with the Prince himself?

How could her marriage with Angus Mackintosh possibly survive their different loyalties?

All this and more is explored in David Shirreff’s fast-moving play.
