Controversy has marred the end of the Huntly pool league.

The Football Club A needed a win against bottom of the table Strathdeveron B to clinch their first ever title.

However, they crashed 6-3 to a Strathdeveron side which included four guest players from Inverness.

The defeat saw the Strathdeveron A team win the league and landlord David Robertson - who plays in the A team himself - defended the decision to pull in new players.

“The B team have struggled for players all season. I didn’t have enough players to make a team,” he said.

“As far as I am concerned we have not cheated and did not break any rules.”

Stuart Milne, a member of the Football Club team, said: “There are no specific rules they have broken but it goes against the ethos of the league.

“It is supposed to be a friendly, social Thursday night out. It left a sour taste in the mouth.

“The league has been going about 25 years and I have never seen anything like this before.

“We were just sick and it has ruined the whole season."
