The Friends’ summer competition is on again, the group has confirmed.

It got under way on Monday (July 24) and will be running through until Monday, August 21.

According to competition organisers, a total of 46 local businesses have kindly agreed to place something “odd” or wacky in their windows.

It will then be up to the competition participants to find those objects.

As everything is in the window, the super sleuths can be out in the evenings searching for the unusual pieces.

A Friends’ spokesperson said: “It is an ideal way in which to support the Jubilee Hospital, particularly Rothieden, which is undergoing refurbishment.

“When that it completed we shall have a modern unit fit for purpose and setting a high standard for small community hospitals.”

Entry forms for the competition can be found in Rizzas, Orb Bookshop, from Flora Macdonald at 5 Bleachfield Street and from Fiona Murray at the town’s 23 Upper Kirkgate.

Cost is £2 per entry.

There will be a prize for under-12s of £20 and also a family prize of £40.

In addition, there will be a prize hamper for the business with the most original object.

As well as the summer competition, the Friends of Huntly Jubilee Hospital will have its annual coffee morning in the Stewart’s Hall on Saturday, August 5, where they will be celebrating 75 years of the NHS.

The group has said that all the usual stalls – a bottle stall, home bakes and produce, a raffle and a bric-a-brac stall with books, pictures, paintings and and jewellery – will all be available on the day.

The spokesperson added: “We also welcome back Katie King with her lovely jewellery and corsages.

“There has been no coffee morning for ages so please come along on the day to enjoy a cup of coffee and buttery and catch up with friends.

“The Friends will be very happy to see you there.

"Our Grand Raffle also continues until Saturday, March 2, 2024 when it will be drawn at the Farmers’ Market.

"If you are not in it, you can’t win it!"
