Friends of Jubilee Hospital have set up a grand raffle with top prizes, supported by local businesses and with cash going towards the refurbishment of the Rothieden Ward.

The charity has committed between £60,000 and £80,000 to the ongoing works, the charity's biggest project since the creation of the Garden Room palliative care facility.

Fiona Murray, chairwoman of Friends of Huntly Jubilee Hospital said: "Businesses in Huntly and the area have been so generous in their donations.

"All the prizes have been so generously given.

"It's absolutely fantastic."

Prizes include: significant cash sums; whisky tour vouchers; a Golf Club voucher; vouchers for businesses in the town and local area; a day of fishing on the Spey; hampers; and more.

All the Friends’ committee members have tickets and raffle tickets will be available at the Sports Trust car boot sale on Monday, May 1 and at the Coronation Craft Market on Saturday, May 6.

Anticipation is set to climb until the raffle is drawn at the Farmers’ Market on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

"The response we've had has been brilliant, because the hospital means so much to all of us in and around Huntly," Mrs Murray said.

"We get all of our money from the community. So this raffle and renovation is of great meaning to everyone.

"This is private money from the community supporting this, which is of great significance."

The Rothieden Ward is currently undergoing extensive renovation and upgrade work and is set to reopen towards the end of the year.

As well as being reroofed, there will also be internal work to create modern facility that Friends of Jubilee Hospital said will "set the standard for rural hospitals in Scotland."

Mrs Murray said: "It's a brilliant refurbishment for a small community hospital."

She added that she hoped the community would be invited to view the improved hospital once works are complete.
