Storm Gerrit latest: A96 closed at Huntly and Inverurie

Update 9.30am - Most roads have now reopened with the exception of the A96 at Huntly where a diversion remains in place.
Update: 9pm - Drivers are still being advised to avoid the Huntly area, however it is now understood that the road through the town past the train station has been opened after flood water was cleared from the site, but it is cautioned that it is height restricted and that larger vehicles should not attempt this route.
Update: 7.30pm - Volunteers have opened the Stewart's Hall in Huntly for those affected by travel issues in the area. The A97 is currently closed due to a lorry being stuck at Gartly and vehicles are stuck on the Rothiemay road for those who are attempting this route.
Due to the flooding situation caused by Storm Gerrit, Route 19, which starts and finishes in Huntly, will not be gritted this evening.
Please take extra care if you are driving on these roads through the night. Aberdeenshire Council will be out at 5am to treat this route.
Elsewhere the A90 at Lonmay is closed in both directions due to flooding.
Aberdeenshire Council has also confirmed that it cannot respond to individual incidents and does not hold enough stock of sandbags to deal with the levels of flooding.
In a statement posted by Aberdeenshire Roads on social media they commented: "We are receiving lots of calls and messages about flooding.
"These messages are useful in making us aware of where the worst of the problems are; but we are not able to respond to individual requests for assistance, or for requests to manage road or flood water.
"We do not hold stock of sandbags in the quantities required to deal with the type of storm we have experienced, and are unable to provide sandbags on request.
"Our roads staff are being fully utilised in providing a coordinated response.
"If an incident is posing a threat to human life, then Police Scotland should be contacted."

DRIVERS in the north-east are being advised as of 5pm not to travel in the Huntly area if at all possible as the A96 has now been closed in both directions to traffic.
The route through the town is also closed at the train station underpass, leaving no viable option for larger vehicles and drivers are asked not travel as alternative routes via Rhynie/Insch and Aberchirder/Turriff are also affected with know issues at Gartly, Insch and the Oyne fork, Bridge of Marnoch and Forgue making the routes impassible at this time.
The A96 is also closed between the Port Elphinstone and Blackhall Roundabout at Inverurie, with traffic diverted through the town.
Elsewhere there are flooding issues around Balmedie, Stuartfield, and the A90, Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route is closed on the actual road northbound at it's junction with the A947 just north of Dyce with vehicles able to exit and rejoin on either side of the slipway.
The southbound carriageway is down to one lane at the same location.
The A947 is also not advised for travel, with Fyvie in particular badly flooded and almost impassible in the Fyvie Station area as well as the village itself next to the Sheiling Tor.
In Ellon, flooding has hit Craigs Road which is now impassible.
The Ugie has burst its banks between Old Deer and Stuartfield shutting that route, the road is also impassible at Sauchen with vehicles stuck in flood water.
