Chef Kenny Meldrum and his wife Katie who took over ownership of the The Pitstop on the A96 at Pitcaple in February have been forced to put out an urgent appeal to customers.

In a statement via their social media feeds today the couple explained: "Due to a massive mistake that our online bank have made, all of our card payments for the last week are being returned to the customer for the goods they have had.

"This is crippling for us and amounts to almost £800.

"Please check your accounts for payments from The Pitstop in the next five days.

"We would hugely appreciate it if customers could pay the amount back to us, but you are under no obligation to do so at all."

They went on to explain further that that issue arose when they had to change accounts with their bank Tide who stated "because the new account will have a different account number all the transactions will go back to the original source as we cannot transfer funds."

They added: "Our customers are wonderful and we're sure they would help us sort it, but many won't realise and they aren't under any legal obligation to do so."

The Pitstop, aka Roy's Bus has been a landmark for travellers on the A96 for decades and has a well deserved reputation for its breakfast offerings.

After 24 years of operation, owner Roy Minty decided to look for a buyer to take over the business back in January ahead of his retirement with the Meldrum's opening their doors in February.
