Ex-Forres youngster in Scotland squad

By SPP Reporter

FORMER Forres Mechanics defender Graeme Shinnie could be in line to make his international debut this week.

The Inverness Caley Thistle full back has been called into Scotland’s under-21 squad to face Italy at Hibs’ Easter Road ground on Wednesday.

Shinnie (20) spent a successful few months at Forres on loan from his SPL employers, moving to the Mosset Park club in February, 2010.

His performances on the left side of defence and midfield helped the Can Cans lift the Highland League Cup that season.

Since then he has broken into Caley Thistle’s first team, and has played 26 times this season, scoring the winning goal against Kilmarnock in a Premier League game in August.

He was chosen for Scotland’s under-21 squad for their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifier against Holland at St Mirren Park in February, but did not make it off the sub’s bench.
