Cameron signs new City contract
BRIAN Cameron has signed a new deal with Elgin City to be part of what he sees as a bright future for the club.
The local youngster felt the pain of Saturday’s play-off defeat against Albion Rovers, but within days he penned a two-year deal which will extend his City career to a full decade.
And his misery had turned to optimismas he believes Elgin will come back next season with an even stronger challenge for promotion.
"I’m delighted to have signed my new contract. I’ve been here for most of my football days – eight years now," said the 20-year-old. "It means a lot to me to play for Elgin City.
"We’ve just had by far the best season Elgin’s had in the Scottish League, and as disappointed as we were to lose on Saturday, the experience can push us on for next season."
Cameron hopes his City team-mates will follow his example by signing new contracts over the coming days, and is confident manager Ross Jack will add quality to the ranks to strengthen the team for next term.
And he hopes his own story a patient wait in the wings to grab his first team chance will inspire current youth team players to stick with the club and make their own breakthrough.
"Quite a few of them have been up training with us and there’s some good players in there.
"They just need to get the head down and stay focussed, and hopefully I can be a sort of inspiration to them to make it to the first team."
