Opening of new Asda store
Asda’s new store in Tain, was officially opened yesterday – and about 200 folk started to queue from around 9.15am for the 10am entry to the new store.
Interest was so keen that the car park was quickly filled to capacity and the shop, as one person described it, was “mobbed”.
The store’s manager, Colin Donaldson, was joined by local hero Catherine Skinner, local MSPs and Highland Councillors, and a piper to celebrate the opening and bring the local community together.
Asda had put a call out to the people of Tain to recommend a local hero to help officially open the store as VIP guest. Catherine Skinner was nominated for her work as a charity volunteer and dedicating her life to helping others.
Catherine has been a voluntary worker for over 40 years, working for a number of charities, in particular the Macmillan Nurses projects to raise money to help put them through training in local hospitals.
Asda Tain has created more than 150 local jobs for local people.
Colin Donaldson said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their local hero nominations and we are very pleased to be able to honour Catherine’s contributions to Tain. I hope we can be as good for the community as she is.
“I’d also like to welcome our new customers to the store and I’m keen to meet as many people as I can during opening week. I can assure them that our new colleagues will deliver great customer service and we’ll all be happy to help in any way we can.”
