Man (34) arrested and charged following theft by housebreaking in Buckie
A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with breaking into a Banffshire store and a series of shoplifting offences.
The man was expected to appear at Elgin Sheriff Court on Thursday (June 19) in connection with a theft by housebreaking at a retail business in Buckie which took place the previous day.
Constable Allan of Buckie Police Office said: "This type of crime can have a lasting impact on a business, and we are committed to working with communities and our partners to tackle those involved in these crimes.
“I would like to thank the public for their assistance in this matter".
A member of the Crime Reduction Team has been visiting retailers in the Buckie area to discuss any concerns and business and retail crime. Police Scotland is encouraging businesses to regularly review their security, visit their website for the latest crime prevention advice or contact their local Crime Prevention Officer for specific advice.
“Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and crimes of dishonesty remain a priority,” said a police spokesperson.
“Those involved in theft and the buying and selling of stolen property not only have an impact on the business and security of the staff but the strength of our local economy.
“If you know of those in your local community who are involved in the buying and selling of stolen property, please contact the Police or you can report it anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.”
