A LYBSTER motorist was fined £400 and lost his licence for 16 months after admitting drink-driving.

Roy Hill (65), of Achow Cottages, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened on Main Street, Lybster, on the same day as his appearance from custody in court.

At Wick Sheriff Court on Friday, November 1, senior fiscal depute David Barclay told the court Hill was found to have 118 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Solicitor Fiona MacDonald said this was Hill’s first drink driving offence in more than 50 years of driving.

“He went out of an evening and he doesn’t normally drink Guinness, but that was the only drink available and he didn’t realise the strength of it,” she said.

Sheriff Andrew Berry also decided not to take Hill's car away from him.
