City drew 1-1 with Arbroath in the Irn Bru Cup first round, before losing 7-6 on spot kicks (see ElginCityTV highlights above).
Black and Whites' boss Gavin Price said he already had one eye on this weekend's league trip to Albion Rovers when preparing for the midweek cup clash.
"We rested some of the players and still managed to achieve a lot and keep the momentum going," he said.
Elgin will look to build on their 1-1 draw at Annan and a 1-0 win at home to Edinburgh City in their opening League 2 fixtures so far.
With Saturday's hosts Albion struggling after back-to-back 4-0 losses since being relegated from League 1, Elgin may even go to Coatbridge as favourite – a tag Price wasn't happy to have.
"Never read anything into the early games of the season. The league will sort itself out after six to eight games and you will then see what's what.
"We've got to go down there with real focus, working hard for each other."
In today's Northern Scot print edition, Elgin captain Jon-Paul McGovern assesses his team's promotion credentials and teenage defender David Wilson speaks about his breakthrough into the first team.
