Win over United "big factor" in ICT's good run

TERRY Butcher believes Caley Thistle’s previous fixture against Dundee United was the game where it all clicked into place for his players.

Inverness began the Scottish Premier League season with five draws and two defeats from their opening seven fixtures, but they ended their winless run in style by thumping the Arabs 4-0 in the Highland Capital.

It was a win which helped to really spark a run that has seen Caley Thistle lose just one in their last 16 games in all competitions.

Butcher stopped short of calling it a turning point, but the significance of that performance at the end of September is not one that is lost on the Inverness manager ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Tannadice.

"It was a great display by us that day," he said. "However, it did come out of the blue a little bit.

"That was our first win in the league and then we won our next two after that, so it really kicked us off.

"In our previous league games I felt we had done well, but we weren’t doing enough to get the results some of our play merited.

"I think we all knew that a big performance and result was coming by the way we were playing, but to get it in the manner we did was a massive confidence boost and a great lift for the players.

"There’s no doubt the result last time out against Dundee United was a big factor in helping us to maintain the run that we’ve been on."
