Anne Keenan, known as The Culinary Kiwi Bird, was awarded three gold, three silver and 14 bronze awards for her sourdough breads and pastries.

Her top bake was the Bere Meal Sourdough Baguette, which received a gold award.

The success has seen Ms Keenan's use of Bere, an ancient barley grown in Orkney, win plaudits for two years running.

Last year, her Bere Meal Sourdough Boule took Reserve Champion and was awarded a bronze award this year.

Also recognised this year were her: Smoked Sourdough Croissant; German flaxseed bread Leinsamenbrot; Vollkornbrot Sourdough, a seeded rye; Toasted Three-Grain Brown Sourdough; and her Sourdough Baguette.

“It’s wonderful to receive such recognition at a national level when this is only my second year of operation," she said.

"Being able to provide real bread to the good folk of north east Aberdeenshire is an absolute privilege.

"I’m very proud to use only Scottish flours and salt in my sourdoughs and Scottish butter in my pastries.”

The Championships held at the Bowhouse in Fife, attracted a record number of entries from Scottish bakers this year.

It is sponsored by The Edinburgh Bakers Trust, The Scottish Food Guide and Scotland The Bread.

Ms Keenan operates her micro-bakery from her Insch home and sells on Fridays in Huntly and Insch and from local farmers’ markets on Saturdays.

You can find more information on The Culinary Kiwi Bird on her website or on Instagram and Facebook @theculinarykiwibird.

She will be at the Huntly Farmers’ Market this Saturday, March 2.
