Local woman passes away after 100th birthday party
A SPECIAL 100-year-old Huntly resident has sadly passed away, just weeks after being featured in the Express celebrating her big birthday.
Last month, Mary Ingham was presented one of the late Queen's last ever birthday cards, just days before Her Majesty passed away.
Now, sadly, it is Mrs Ingham's family's time to say good bye, as she passed away on Thursday, September 29, at Balhousie Care Home.
Mrs Ingham was widow to Jimmy and a loving step mother to Martin and the late Mark, as well as a grandmother and great grandmother.
The former Banff resident was artistic, being a member of Banff Art Club and was also a member of St Mary's church in Banff.
Her cousin, Ian Rennie, who lived near the Inghams in Banff before himself moving to Huntly a few years before Mrs Ingham moved to the care home, spoke to the Express fondly of her.
He said: "She was quite independent. I did odd jobs for her and took her to appointments. She also gave me a lot of information to make up our family tree as she had a great memory up until recent years.
"She liked playing dominoes at Balhousie and, of course, winning. She enjoyed speaking to the other residents about the life she had."
In her younger years, Mrs Ingham had served in the civil service in London and moved to South Africa where she married Jimmy. The couple retired to the Black Isle to run a caravan site and eventually relocated to Banff – closer to her Aberdeenshire roots. Mrs Ingham was born in Methlic and went to school in Turriff.
The funeral service was held in Banff Parish Church on Monday.
