Mr Wilson, an elder of King Edward Parish Church, related how the first place of worship in the area began in 900 through the centuries to the present day.

The former church was built in 1124, the ruins of which stand a short distance from the present building which came into use in 1848.

Included in Mr Wilson's talk was the different spelling of King Edward over the centuries and the ministers and personalities involved since 1567.

Following the formal part of the meeting the members enjoyed lunch together.

The next meeting of the club will be on Wednesday, April 3 when any new members will be made welcome.
