Fyvie Nursery praised as 'a happy environment for children’ by inspectors
An Aberdeenshire nursery has been praised by inspectors for its communication, friendly environment, and strong and effective leadership.
The Care Inspectorate has graded Fyvie School Nursery ‘very good’ in quality of care and support, quality of environment, quality of staffing, and quality of management and leadership following the inspection in November last year.
Parents and carers who had submitted feedback praised nursery staff for being friendly and approachable, and keeping them updated about their child through either informal conversation at the school gate or online personal development plans.
The report also praised the effective leadership amongst the nursery’s management.
It said: “Effective leadership was contributing to the positive ethos within the setting.
"This was because staff felt well supported in their role and were given specific responsibilities, building leadership at all levels.
"This promoted honest, open and respectful relationships and a happy environment for children.”
Inspectors also commended staff for community engagement through the food share partnership with a local supermarket.
The nursery was provided with unsold, good food which families could collect from the nursery’s community food box.
It acted as a valuable lifeline to families who needed it most and prevented food waste.
Children played their part by selecting items of food for families and prepared and cooked food which led to them learning the importance of not wasting food.
The inspection also acknowledged appropriate infection control measures were in place such as good handwashing routines for children and enhanced cleaning procedures took place throughout the session to minimise the risk of infection spread.
The nursery’s approach to health and wellbeing was commended too. Examples included the use and awareness of multi-sensory outdoor play and learning had on children’s resilience, health and wellbeing.
