Final efforts made to reconnect power to north-east homes in the wake of Storm Gerrit

Teams from SSEN have managed to get around half the people who were still off supply late last night reconnected between midnight and 1am this morning, meaning fewer families were without power overnight in the wake of Storm Gerrit.

A spokesperson said: "We've now reconnected more than 45,000 homes following Storm Gerrit. "We'll keep working as hard as we can to get the final 750 customers back on as soon as possible.

"Remember, our teams are here to help and advise you - call free on 105.

"Conditions are still challenging in many areas but we worked into the early hours of this morning to clear the way to faults where access has been blocked by fallen trees and debris.

"Our hot food vans are now opening up for breakfast in several locations.

Food vans will remain at the following locations until 4pm today - Bellabeg, Strathdon; Tarland; Formartine United car park at Pitmedden.

It was also confirmed late last night that the A96 has fully reopened to traffic at Huntly after being closed for nearly 48 hours.

As of 10.45am the following roads issues remain in Aberdeenshire -

A93 Braemar to Spittal of Glenshee - Closed at the snow gates. Gritters will be attending in daylight, hoping to open soon.

B993 Inverurie to Whiterashes - currently closed due to flood water and could be into next week before open due to high river levels and forecast rain.

C138B Road into Pennan - closed due to a landslide, teams are in attendance at this but no timescale for reopening yet.

B977 Kintore - Fintray closed at golf course due to flooding and could be into next week before open due to high river levels and forecast rain.

C2S Mill of Eden - closed due to a landslide, this may be closed for some time as further work will be required prior to reopening.
