Parents have praised staff at Meiklemill Primary School for their efforts during lockdown.

For many people across the country the biggest upheaval brought about by the coronavirus pandemic was the closure of schools and workplaces.

It has not been easy to adapt to the new way of living, but families at one Ellon school are grateful to the staff for going above and beyond in the support offered.

One parent told the Advertiser that the staff at Meiklemill Primary School, where their children attend, "have been fantastic" and added "the kids and families are very much feeling cared about!"

The young people have been receiving work daily as well as participating in video calls with their teacher and classmates.

There is also regular communication with parents and guardians through e-mail and social media.

It's not just school work, however, that has been keeping the pupils busy with teachers also providing them with an opportunity to work on challenges that count towards their badge ribbons and prizes were left on the doorsteps of the classes' technology challenge winners.

A whole school assembly - with singing, a story and the virtual presentation of achievement awards - lifted spirits throughout the school community.

A 'pass the toilet roll' video co-ordinated by the school also brought with it lots of smiles.

It's not just the teaching staff who are making a difference to the families' experience, with non-teaching staff also getting stuck in to a variety of morale boosting activities each week and the team spirit and unity amongst the staff has not gone unnoticed by the families stuck at home.

The latest challenge for pupils is to see who can grow the tallest sunflower, something which will keep the pupils busy for weeks to come.

Schools in Scotland are not expected to re-open to pupils until August.
