A Cafe day run by Turriff Primary School Nursery has helped to offer Christmas cheer to local families.

As the nursery's Kirsty Murdoch explained: "We've always have an enterprise event to raise money for a local charity and because of the time of year we weren't sure which ones would be buying presents.

"So we got in touch with the local health visiting team and they told us that there was a need for this locally for families with children of all ages.

Thanks to generosity of parents and supporters, the event took place on the same day as the recent primary pupils community cafe, with homebakes and raffles drawing a steady stream of visitors and helping to bring in £774.

As Miss Murdoch continued: "We raised so much that even when we had been through all of the children to make sure they received gifts we had money left over so we decided to make up food hampers for the families as well.

"We had loads of support over the day and cant believe the amount of stuff we've been able to hand over and we know the recipients have been delighted with them.

Welcoming the health visitors to the school before breaking up for the holidays, staff were able to hand over and amazing 276 presents in 35 bags with presents for children along 13 food crates.

Funds helped to create 13 food hampers and provide gifts for 35 children.

As Miss Murdoch concluded: "We could not be happier with the support and response to our Christmas Quest.

"Thank you to everyone who baked, wrapped, donated and helped in every way possible.

"It has been a challenge but one that the nursery staff are extremely proud of."
