Drivers in and around Fyvie are being urged to adhere to local speed limits after a call from the local Primary School.

A spokeswoman for the school explained: “It has been brought to our attention that there is a desperate need to remind drivers of the speed limit, coming into and through the village, which is 30mph and 20mph at peak time.

“Vehicles are driving along at speeds that are excessive on several roads that are close to the school.

“School children are in constant danger of being hit and injured or worse, a threat that also extends to all other members of the public, especially after school during dark nights.

”In addition, in light of a further discussion, could we politely ask drivers to take care on the country roads surrounding the village, especially narrow, single track roads.

“Many of our children reside at rural properties and even when taking care cycling on the correct side of the road or walking on the verge, they have been placed at risk due to excessive speed from motorists.

”We am fully aware that the majority of our parents adhere to such limits and are mindful of the children in and around the village.”

Concerns around speeding near schools in Aberdeenshire have been a continual source of complaints from parents and the wider community with action recently instigated in Kintore to introduce traffic calming measures near Kintore Primary School while speed investigations also highlighted issues near Kinellar Primary.
