Captain Cammy Bowden felt Turriff were a bit unlucky

Cammy Bowden believes that Turriff United were a bit unlucky not to get a share of the spoils in Saturday’s narrow derby defeat to Deveronvale.

It was a game where chances were at a premium and at times players struggled to deal with the windy conditions caused by Storm Dennis.

The only goal arrived in 72 minutes when a Jody Munro cross was headed back across goal by defender Michael Clark with Scott Dunn credited with the final touch.

While new on loan signing from Peterhead Danail Dimov was handed a debut and Banff youngster Owen Christie came on as a trialist.

Bowden told the Advertiser: “It was a close game I thought we probably deserved something out of this game.

“There wasn’t much between the two sides.

“We switched off for a set piece but I felt there striker got a touch as it was going into the back of the net.

“I thought it was offside and really disappointed with that.

“We performed well and I think if we can take it into Saturday’s game.

“I can imagine it to be a similar kind of game.”

He admits that the Aberdeenshire club may have struggled with the poor conditions at the weekend.

He added: “Conditions were quite poor.

“Maybe we didn’t play to the conditions enough on Saturday.

“In fairness the Vale probably have one of best pitches in the Highland League in terms of surface at this time of year.

“It is pretty decent for getting the ball down and passing it about.”

Now 15th placed United will be looking to bounce back this weekend as they are on their travels to Forres Mechanics.

Bowden said: “If we can show that level of commitment again I’m sure we will do alright.

“We certainly have to play to the conditions when we go up to Forres.

“They are a physical side and the conditions will probably be the same.

“We have to try and play through them.

“We are improving.”

Meanwhile Turriff assistant Graeme Mathieson felt one mistake cost Kris Hunter’s side a point.

He said: “I thought we deserved something from the game as we coped really well with the wind in the first half.

“I told the players at the break it can be just as difficult to play with the wind and a silly mistake saw us let their player run 40 yards into the box and get a free header for the goal.

“We didn’t create much apart from Robert Ward’s effort but it was a much-improved display from our previous game.”
