Turriff United progressed into the second round of the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 victory over Sauchie Juniors.

United welcomed the Clackmannanshire side, who play in the East of Scotland League, to The Haughs on Saturday afternoon.

It was the visitors who opened the scoring when Mark Smith netted from close range.

Turriff pulled one back with Jack McKenzie scoring a fantastic strike.

Minutes after the break Ewan Clark got Turriff's second which proved to be the winning goal.

Sauchie were awarded an early free-kick which was taken by Ross Kavanagh. His shot hit the wall and the rebound came back to him but he could not send it goalwards.

The visitors then took the lead when the ball came to Mark Smith at close range and he knocked it in for the first goal.

United had a chance when Callan Gray made a run and attempted a shot from long distance which was saved by Sauchie goalkeeper Chick Clark.

There was a let off for the hosts when a Sauchie effort hit the woodwork.

The home side were then back in the game when a ball was played to McKenzie and he unleashed a superb shot into the net.

Turriff were starting to have more of the opportunities. A ball was crossed into Ewan Clark who could not get a header on to it.

Another cross was delivered to John Allan who got a head to it, however, he was unable to guide the ball towards the net and it went wide.

United wasted no time after the break and took the lead after 47 minutes. Ewan Clark was played through, he made a good run and fired it past the keeper to make it 2-1.

An inviting Turriff ball reached Allan who bolted towards goal but the custodian was there to block the effort and save.

The hosts had a goal disallowed when Allan and Ewan Clark linked up well, however, the linesman waved for offside when the latter netted.

At the other end Sauchie's Sam Davidson hit a powerful strike which drifted wide of the target.

Brian Morgan was next to have an opportunity for the away side and hit a shot from a good position which was too high and over the goal.

A United cross was headed by Ewan Clark which went just wide of the far post.

Sauchie were then reduced to 10 men when Lucas Williamson was sent off.

Fergus Alberts had a late chance for Turriff when he was played through. He was under pressure from a defender and the goalkeeper who managed to block the effort.

Meanwhile, Turriff United have announced the signing of Timi Fatona (18)

The right sided player formerly played in the Aberdeen FC youth academy and had trials with Derby County.

Ewan Clark and Rhys Clark have also signed contract extensions with the club.
