LOCAL football fans will get the chance to watch international football on Sunday when the Cameroon women’s Olympic football team takes on Northern Ireland in a friendly match at Turriff United’s The Haughs ground (kick-off 3pm).
The Cameroon squad is using Aberdeenshire as its training base ahead of the London 2012 Olympics, which begin on Friday, July 27.
Aberdeenshire Council has joined forces with Turriff United Aberdeen Sports Village and the Robert Gordon University to arrange for the Northern Ireland women’s team to travel to Scotland and play a friendly as part of the Cameroon team’s pre-Olympic countdown.
Turriff United secretary Gairn Ritchie said: “Turriff United was pleased to be considered as one of the hosts for this match, and absolutely delighted when it was awarded to us.
“Games of this stature do not come to places like Turriff often, and we look forward to welcoming both Cameroon and Northern Ireland to the town.
