AFTER their stunning Aberdeenshire Shield victory last Wednesday night, Turriff United were brought back to reality on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Fort William.

The result was a disappointing end to a great second season for The Haughs men.

The Fort flew out of the traps and just two minutes in, a great ball in from Raymond Munro found Chris Macleod in the inside right position. The young midfielder took a touch before lobbing the ball over Turriff goalkeeper Grant Pennet from 20 yards.

Turriff retaliated with a good move involving Grant Noble and Robbie Allan on 11 minutes with the latter’s cross into the box met perfectly by Michael Ewen, but his goal-bound effort was blocked by Andy Martin.

On 21 minutes, a great ball over the top from Kevin Ferguson found Logan Barker rushing in on goal and he volleyed home from 18 yards.

Then, less than a minute later, Munro picked up the ball out on the right and his cross into the middle was met perfectly by Michael Ellis, whose right-footed effort flew into the net.

Turriff clawed a goal back a minute from the break when an Allan ball from the right picked out Dave McKenzie and from 10 yards he turned and fired home.

The first attempt of the second half took until the 60th minute to arrive with Turriff substitute Craig Morrison firing over from 20 yards before a great effort from Munro out wide on the right at the other end went over the bar.

A long ball into the Fort box was handled by Kevin Ferguson as he went up to head clear giving referee Douglas Ross no option but to point to the spot.

Morrison took the penalty and even though Campbell dived the wrong way, the ball went wide to keep Fort’s two-goal lead intact.

Morrison’s header from a Cowie corner clipped the top of the bar on 80 minutes and the striker’s luck continued to evade him, as he was thwarted by Campbell from six yards.
