AFTER two impressive victories against Forres Mechanics and Cove Rangers, Turriff United’s great run in the Highland League was stopped by Buckie Thistle, who beat them 2-0 on Saturday.

Thistle had to ring the changes due to injuries and suspension, and it seemed to pay off in the early stages as they went two goals up.

The opener arrived in the 12th minute when a swift break saw Nikki Smith feed in Donnie Munro, who drilled an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner of the net from 12 yards out.

A minute later and it was 2-0. Shaun Wood played the ball to Paul Napier and his cross from the right was slammed home by Smith, opening his account for Buckie having made the switch from Lossiemouth in the summer.

In the 23rd minute Jamie Shewan played a great ball over the top of the Turriff defence which was controlled by Smith, but his low shot was saved by the legs of Stephen Coutts, keeping his side in the game.
