HAT-trick heroine Catie Carter made sure it was two wins on the bounce for Buckie Ladies on Sunday.

The Merson Park outfit welcomed Sutherland Women FC for their first home game of their Highlands and Islands league campaign.

It was a game to remember for young striker Carter who bagged her first competitive hat-trick, while substitute forward Moira Beadle added her name to the scoresheet.

It looked to be pretty much done and dusted for the hosts going into the break with a 3-0 lead, but Sutherland showed why they are regarded as formidable opponents when they clawed back three goals to set up a nervy end to the game for Buckie.

However, they were to hold on and added another three valuable points to those gained following their 8-0 demolition of Kirkwall City a fortnight ago.

Buckie Ladies manager Mel Smith said she was delighted with the performance overall.

She said: "I'm very happy with the result, there's lots of positives for us to take away from the game.

"We pressed well, especially in the first half, and had lots of good movement and shots on target.

"Our work on the training field is really paying off. One of the things we've been working on is using our width and bringing the full backs into play and we did that well against Sutherland.

"Catie is an outstanding player and I'm delighted she got her first competitive hat-trick. She's a born striker and showed that on Sunday.

"We lost three goals quite quickly in the second half, which I'm disappointed about but we came away with a 4-3 win, which against a team like Sutherland is a good result."

Next up in the league is a trip to Caithness on Sunday April 24.

Smith added: "Caithness will be another tough one.

"As I've said before, every team in the league has improved and we can't look back to our scores from last year and think we can use them predict how we'll do this time around.

"I think this season will be one of the most open leagues we've had."

Kick-off is scheduled for 12 noon– follow Buckie Ladies' Facebook page for updates and training night details.
