The three-day stroke play event will take place from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 with one round of strokeplay on the Friday and Saturday, before the top 40 and ties compete in the final 36 holes of strokeplay on the Sunday.

In 2022, Charlie Thornton came out on top in tough conditions at Cruden Bay Golf Club after posting an impressive final round of 66 (-4) to claim the title.

He doesn’t return this year, paving the way for a new champion to be crowned on Sunday.

The tournament boasts an illustrious list of past winners including the likes of Colin Montgomerie, Stephen Gallacher, Richie Ramsay, Tommy Fleetwood and Bernard Gallacher.

The last Scottish winner of the event came in 2017 when Liam Johnston (Dumfries & County) took home the trophy.

There are several Scots in the field this week looking to emulate Johnston’s six years ago.

Kevin McAlpine will be taking to the field this year, a winner at Royal Dornoch in 2007, after spending time caddying on the LPGA.

Brothers Gregor and Connor Graham (Blairgowrie) will be looking to continue to build on their successes over the last few years and stake a claim for the title.

With the weather conditions looking promising it is set to be a superb weekend of golf at Meldrum House, which is celebrating its 25-year anniversary this year.

Ranked within the Top 100 courses in the country by GolfWorld, the stunning parkland course will provide numerous challenges for the competitors. Hole 11, a par 5, is sure to pose difficult with 18 bunkers guarding the green.

After the successful introduction of the Pre-Qualifier round in 2022, the event returned this year, with Kemnay Golf Club playing host to the pre-qualifying round on Tuesday.

A total of 43 players came through pre-qualifying to make it into the final field, with Ruben Lindsay (Turnberry Golf Club) finishing top of the leaderboard.

Lindsay will go into Friday’s competition with confidence after breaking the course record at Kemnay in the Pre-Qualifier, posting a superb score of 66 (-5).

A full list of players for Friday’s opening round can be found here, with the tee-times to follow shortly.

The scores for the 2023 Scottish Men’s Open will be available at the same link.
