In what was their penultimate game in what has been a rather disappointing season, losing more games than they have won, Ellon Gordon CC played host to 2nd Grampian at the Gordon Park writes Ean Mackie.

On winning the toss skipper Sandham asked the opposition to bat first and they didn't have long to wait for their first breakthrough when Greenfield had S Joseph caught behind by Meikle in the fifth over.

Webb followed that up four overs later when he trapped the other opener K.Joseph lbw.

Grampian then had a mini revival with what was to be their highest partnership of the innings of 30 runs between Hussain and Kannan before Barrett had Hussain caught in the deep by Webb.

Veldsman then had Kannan caught by Ovenston before Barret struck again when Greenfield caught Rathnayake off his bowling closely followed up by a run out to leave Grampian 61 for 5 after only fifteen overs.

Barrett and Meikle combined to capture the next wicket to fall leaving Addy; Greenfield in his second spell and M Van Heerdeen to mop up the tail.

Most successful home bowler once again was Barrett with 3 for 19 closely followed by Greenfield with 2 for 10. The fielders had also backed up the bowlers well taking seven catches in the wickets to fall.

Only one of the Grampian batsmen made it into double figures.

2ND GRAMPIAN 100 -- Z. Hussain 34; A.AP 9*; J.Barrett 3 for 19; R. Greenfield 2 for 10

Ellon were looking for a good solid start to their innings in an effort to register a long awaited victory in what has been a disappointing season.

Veldsman and Webb didn't disappoint with an opening stand of 92 in which Webb was most definitely the dominant partner scoring a quick fire 65, which included 2 sixes and 11 fours , in only 12 .2overs leaving Veldsman not out and allowing Barrett to round the scoring off with a four at the end.

Grampian used five bowlers as they toiled to keep the run rate down and Webb under control but they had nobody who stood up to the onslaught.

It is difficult to keep someone in control when they are striking the ball like Webb was.

ELLON GORDON 101 FOR 1 (12.5 overs) -- B.Webb 65; B.Veldsman 27* ; M.Rathman 1 for 32

For their last game of the season Ellon travel to Fraserburgh where they are hopeful of pulling off another victory to round off the season.
