Ryan Sewell was thrilled to score a much-needed Huntly double on Saturday to end what he felt was a personal run of poor form.

The midfielder started and finished the scoring in his team’s sparkling 5-1 success over Deveronvale.

Angus Grant also netted twice and top scorer Andy Hunter got one, with Ryan Park replying for Vale.

“It was needed,” he said. “We’ve had a few poor results by our standards but the performance was really good.

“With my own performances I know I’ve been nowhere near my best, through a combination of injuries and just not playing well. So I needed this, it was a lot better and I’m aiming to continue improving.”

Sewell flicked in a right foot opener, then sealed the points with his left foot - and he admits he could have had more.

“I don’t know how it’s happened, scoring two. The first one was a cross from Andy Hunter and I’ve managed to flick it with my back right leg and luckily it went through the boy’s legs and in.

“For the second one, I’ve headed the ball down the line to Angus Grant and he’s cut it back to me and I’ve hit it with my left foot and luckily it went in.

“I was just missing the header to make it the perfect hat-trick. I did have other chances and I should have had a couple more goals if I’m being honest. But I’m happy with the two and that’s four I’ve scored in the league now.”

The win ended a nine-match run for Huntly without a home victory in all competitions.

Sewell says little has changed in Huntly’s squad since previous boss Allan Hale and his assistant Stefan Laird moved to Elgin City, to be replaced by Colin Charlesworth.

“It’s been really good, the standard has always been good at training and it’s pretty much the same, high intensitystuff.

“He’s done really well for his first management job. He’s just trying to keep the football going, we are training the same way and still playing the same pressing game, trying to create a lot of chances and score goals.”
