The match was at Buchan and the score was even throughout. The score at end eight was 30-29, a lead of one to Garioch.

Angela Banks was the lead, and Ella Simpson second to Glenys Bolt, who went on to win 23-11.

Ivy Ross had a bad start being 2-12 down at the eighth end. The second half saw her continuing to struggle and she finished 5-20.

Carol Stuart with Joan Western and Ann Mollison were never behind, leading 9-4 at mid point, and going on to a convincing win 18-8.

Elizabeth Fraser had Sheila Reidford and Lynn Ronald in her rink. It was a very close match against Catherine McIntosh, the Scottish Triples Champion of last year.

The score was 7-7 at halfway, but they finally went down by just three shots, 14-17.

It just shows that it is a team game. This was the last match on the carpet and the skip Elizabeth Fraser, watching the overall score, and conscious of the fact that Garioch/Turriff had two wins against one loss, she kept the game tight.

The match win was two rinks each but a better score overall of 60-57. A win by three shots.

Meanwhile, Carla Banks has been invited to join the Ultimate Bowls Championship in New South Wales, Australia, which takes place until December 16.

The prize money is $500,000 or just under £300,000, which is the largest anywhere in the world.

Teams of three must play in three pairs events and she has taken her brother Jason, along with Greg McLauchlin of the Blantyre Club.

Greg is well known to both Banks players, as they have competed against him, and played together in many International events.

Players from more than 19 countries have been invited to participate in two sections of 13 pairs.

The trio have to pay all costs getting to Melbourne and take their chance regarding the prize money.

To get to the event, the team had plane delays, cancelled flights at last minute and luggage problems, but they have arrived at the venue safely and getting over jet lag with all cases intact.

The championship is at Moama in New South Wales, just yards across the Murray River from Victoria. The venue has hosted many large International events.

The week has a broadcast package that allows a selected match to be shown in 22 countries around the world every day.

The format of the Ultimate Bowls has been strategically designed to appeal to both the bowls enthusiasts, and to people who enjoy watching sport at its best in a fast-paced, exciting manner.

There is a winner of every match after just 25 minutes, which has spectators both at the venue, and watching on TV seeing the wins and losses.

One of the championship's most exciting features is its dynamic and innovative scoring system.

Players have the opportunity to score points with every bowl that is played. A "toucher" earns their team three points, as does holding the shot when the leads have finished their bowls.

Both teams have the opportunity to earn points on the same end; 10 points for the closest bowl, five points for the second-closest and three points for the third-closest.

There is an automatic update on every match and their position in the section through a new computer programme.
