Rothienorman bowlers take Harlaw Open Pairs Tournament

Harlaw Bowling Club (Inverurie) last weekend held their annual Open Pairs competition and Rothienorman Pair, Mark Campbell and veteran John Nicol took the title writes Mike Barron.

They beat the home pair of Ian Binnie, and UK indoor short mat champion, Sandy McDonald in an exciting final, winning by 2 shots.

The 30 pair tournament had 18 north east clubs present, and they played in glorious conditions.

Six leagues of five teams played against one another with the winners progressing to play downs.

Campbell and Nicol were up against it in their section, but their final win against Gordon Harper (Harlaw) helped them come through by 1 shot, to reach the play offs.

From then they upped their game and deservedly reached the final and won.
