Inverurie Bowling Club's ladies are having one of their best seasons in tournaments, writes Mike Barron.

They have just won their own club invitation triples, are top equal in the Craigie Ladies League with two matches to go and are in semi-final of the Cromallie Cup.

The club invitation triples participants are divided into sections, and the four winners go into the semi-finals.

Reaching this were Newhills who faced Kintore (Evelyn Murray, Mary Anderson and Betty Heron), who won 6-2.

Huntly (Jillian Tewnion, Clair Rough and Louise Clark) had a good series of games to win their section. They faced the local Inverurie trio.

The match was even in the early stages, but Rhona Jarvis, Ann Bisset and Joyce Bruce of Inverurie scored well and won 6-2 to get to the final.

Being on their local green was an advantage to Inverurie who piled on the shots to win 8-0. Kintore were disappointed at the result, having played so well in their section and semi-final.

The Craigie Ladies League has 10 teams and the results have been close in many matches.

Ellon, Inverurie and Newhills are all level on 12 points from seven games. With two matches to go it could come down to shots advantage.

Ellon meantime has +100, Inverurie +78 and Newhills are on +66. Harlaw lie fourth and Kintore fifth with both having four wins. The matches in the next couple of weeks will decide the title.

Inverurie have reached the semi-finals of the Cromallie Cup against Huntly, with Newhills taking on Balgownie. To reach this stage Inverurie beat Kintore 32-28, then Ellon 30-25.

The District 3 Junior Singles winner is Carla Banks of Inverurie, who goes on to the Scottish Championship in July 2023.

She had a great final match with Gemma Banks of Newhills. Despite drawing well, especially on the backhand, Gemma lost by four shots 17-21.

Carla beat Lucy Willox of Harlaw in the semi-final 21-11. Willox and Banks are two good young bowlers who have progressed well over the last three seasons.

Could the final of the Inverurie Bowling Club Ladies Championship feature mother playing daughter? The draw has resulted in Carla Banks playing Olive McGillivary, with the winner facing Angela Banks or Ivy Ross.
