A three-game undefeated run has given Keith manager Craig Ewen some late-season cheer.

The Maroons built on a battling 2-2 draw at Nairn County by grabbing a first win since November 26 against Wick in midweek, then holding Huntly to a 1-1 draw at Kynoch Park on Saturday.

“We needed to get some points on the board in the last week so I’m pleased that we’ve managed to do that,” said Ewen.

From going 11 matches without a victory, the Maroons are now three without defeat and looking to extend that to four tomorrow night when they make the journey to Grantown to take on bottom club Strathspey Thistle.

Keith hammered Jags 6-1 at Kynoch Park last October, but although the Seafield Park side is resigning to finishing in last place in the Highland League, they are set to escape a relegation play-off with none of the challenging clubs from the pyramid system having suitable facilities to move up.

In any case, Jags, under new manager Rob MacCormack have put together a run of much better results. On Saturday, they almost inflicted a dent on leaders Buckie Thistle’s title hopes by holding them to 0-0 until stoppage time when two Sam Urquhart goals snatched victory for the visitors.

“Now we go into this big game on Wednesday, looking to try and finish with as many points as we can,” Ewen added.

“Strathspey will be desperate to get the win before the end of the season as well.

“You look at their result on Saturday. To run Buckie as close as they did tells its own story.

“They are obviously playing well so it will be another hard game where both teams will be going all out to get the three points and we will try and make sure it is us that gets the result.

“I just expect it to be another battle.”
