HUNTLY Women's clash with Dryburgh Athletic was abandoned at half-time on Sunday with the Black and Golds 3-0 to the good.

The hosts led 2-0 inside five minutes at Christie Park, with Jenna Laidlaw scoring the quickest goal in the club's young history after 66 seconds before Laura Parsley doubled the lead.

Parsley grabbed her second just before half-time and the visitors were reduced to 10 players.

With Huntly preparing to come out for the second half, Dryburgh – who had no substitutes remaining – are reported to have refused to continue the match.

A spokesperson from Scottish Women's Football said: “We aware that Sunday’s game between Huntly and Dryburgh Development in the SWFL North was abandoned before the second half.

“It is deeply disappointing that a game could not be fulfilled. The cases of both clubs will now be heard by the league management committee before any sanctions are imposed or decisions made on the future of this fixture.”

Huntly will have to wait to see if they are awarded the three points – but even if they are, the chance to add to their goals for column is gone.

Manager Raymond Henderson said: "It affects our opportunity to add to our goal difference. Elgin City won 7-0 on Sunday and that gives them goal difference that we didn't have the chance to get.

"There has been a bit of frustration lately with so many games cancelled and this game getting cancelled just adds to that."

Huntly had Emily Wetherly making her debut for the club on Sunday, while fellow new signing Donna Paterson is in line to make her first start in the coming weeks.

Wetherly has come through the youth system at Aberdeen, while Paterson – who stays in Foggie – is a player with great experience having played in the Champions League for Glasgow City.

"When you get a player of that experience it's good for the younger ones," Henderson said. "It gives them somebody to look up to.

"We have also got the talent of Emily and that adds a different dimension and something we were missing."

Huntly have no game this weekend and will return to action for a cup quarter-final against Inverurie Locos.
