BUCKIE Thistle were left gutted and frustrated after losing 2-1 to Brora Rangers in the Highland League Cup final in Nairn on Saturday.

The Jags were poor in the first period, going into the break two goals thanks to goals from Jordan MacRae and Mark Nicolson.

They reacted after half-time, but were kept at bay until Sam Urquhart's 85th minute strike made for an interesting conclusion.

But Brora held on to win the Highland League Cup for the second time in their history.

The referee took the brunt of Buckie's frustration – with manager Graeme Stewart, who was sent off after full-time, describing Joel Kennedy as the worst referee he's ever seen.

The news got worse for Buckie on Saturday evening as Fraserburgh were confirmed as 1-0 winners against Nairn County.

The Jags now need a minor miracle to win the Highland League title – despite having already won 23 consecutive matches.

They'll host Wick Academy on Wednesday and travel to Inverness to take on Clachnacuddin on Saturday. They'll need to win both matches and hope Forres can take a point off of Fraserburgh in order to win the league.

If they draw with Wick, things will go down to the last day – but Buckie would then need Forres, 13th in the table, to pull off an unlikely win at Bellslea.
