PICTURES: Lossiemouth and Buckie Thistle observe minute's silence in honour of The Queen's passing before Saturday's Scottish Cup tie at Grant Park
Buckie Thistle fans expecting a Scottish Cup romp at Lossiemouth on Saturday almost got a rude awakening.
Jags were expected to be comfortable winners against a side they thrashed 6-0 in the league at Grant Park this season and defeated 5-0 home and away last term.
But the latest cup clash was very different, with Buckie a touch relieved to make it through with a 2-1 victory and book a home clash with Open Goal Broomhill in the second round on October 22.
A minute's silence was observed by the Grant Park crowd prior to kick off to honour the passing of The Queen.
A typically fast start from Graeme Stewart’s side appeared to have set up another easy win over their Highland League rivals as they raced into a two-goal lead with little over 15 minutes on the clock.
Two very similar Marcus Goodall goals did the trick.
The first on five minutes saw the little midfielder race on to Andy MacAskill’s pass into the box and tuck a left foot effort beyond home keeper Logan Ross.
Sam Pugh then set up Goodall in the same position on the right side of the penalty area 12 minutes later, and this time a right foot finish beat Ross at the same right hand post.
Buckie continued to dominate without adding to their account, and perhaps started to believe they would cruise into the next round - but Lossie had other ideas.
With the visitors claiming for a foul, Lossie progressed down the left early in the second half and Jags keeper Bal Demus didn’t deal with the cross ball allowing Ross Archibald to nod one back for the home side.
There was late concern for the visitors when a Lossie attack led to Scott Thomson crashing an effort off the underside of the bar.
The loose ball eventually fell to Baylee Campbell who fired over the target, letting the relieved Jags off the hook.
