Smoke bombs, coins thrown and a pitch invasion at Victoria Park last night have prompted Buckie Thistle to threaten bans to supporters breaching their ‘unacceptable behaviour’ policy.
Jags fans were elated after their team defeated leaders Brechin City 2-1 in a crucial Highland League match on Wednesday.
However, the match was disrupted by pyrotechnics thrown on to the pitch by home supporters before and during the match, while a section of the Jags support ran on to the field to celebrate at the end.
Reports were also made that coins had been thrown at players during the match.
Buckie Thistle’s board of directors released a statement today condemning the behaviour and saying anyone involved in such incidents could find themselves banned from future matches.
The pitch was engulfed in green smoke prior to kick-off, during the half time interval and immediately after Jack Murray scored what proved to be Buckie’s winning goal, with the devices having to be removed from the field by club stewards.
The club statement read: “Buckie Thistle FC has always prided itself on fostering a positive and safe environment for fans of all ages to enjoy the beautiful game. However, recent incidents involving the throwing of coins and the use of pyrotechnics have raised concerns.
“We want to make it abundantly clear that such actions will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Not only do these behaviours jeopardize the safety of fellow fans and players, but they also tarnish the reputation of our beloved club.
“Any individual found engaging in such misconduct will face immediate consequences, including potential banning from future matches and legal action.
“We urge all supporters to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and to cheer on our team with enthusiasm, respect, and fair play.
“Let's continue to show the true spirit of Buckie Thistle FC both on and off the pitch. Together, we can create memorable matchday experiences for everyone involved.”
