Morayshire Indoor Bowling Association celebrates 90th anniversary with commemorative match against Banffshire

As part of their 90th anniversary celebrations, a Morayshire Indoor Bowling Association squad played a Banffshire select at Moray Bowling Club in Elgin.

Morayshire were represented by all member clubs along with former clubs New Elgin, Elgin and Dallas also participating in the match.

Taking part for Banffshire were rplayers from the clubs at Huntly, Dufftown, Drummuir and Grange. A high number of spectators came along to support the event, sponsored by Ardmore Distillery.

The match was played over two sessions, with Morayshire skipped by Brian Davidson making a strong start leading 11-3 after five ends.

Banffshire, skipped by Harry Hay, rallied late on winning four successive ends to tie the match 14 apiece.

Dallas skip Mike Brown gave Morayshire a first session lead playing impressively to win 12-6 against John Watt.

Banffshire skips David Bell and Stephen Dalgarno made a strong start in the second session leading 8-1 and 10-1 to hand the initiative to the visitors.

Neil Mathers counted three shots in successive ends to bring Morayshire back into the contest, but Banffshire won three of the last four ends played to run out worthy winners, 47 shots to 39 shots.

Highest up rink for Banffshire were Ann Morrison, Francie Morrison, Karen Dalgarno and skip David Bell.

The best Morayshire rink of Vivien Welsh (Birnie) Bill Robertson (Fochabers) Tam Stewart (Lossie BC) and skip Mike Brown (Dallas) received a bottle of Ardmore Whisky presented by Audrey Gill on behalf founder club Elgin.

A special thanks to Audrey Gill for donating the 90th anniversary cake and Susan and Ann for their great support in preparing and serving the teas along with sausage rolls and cake.

Morayshire president Bryce Milne (Birnie) thanked Moray Bowling Club for hosting the event and everyone who turned out in support of the anniversary match and for their generosity in providing and purchasing raffles.

The raffle raised just under £300 which will be donated to the Friends of The Oaks charity later in the season.
