The Garioch Gents team, in the North League, lost their unbeaten record playing to Arbroath writes Mike Barron.

The score Arbroath 82 - Garioch 72.

The good news came through that Buchan had defeated Fraserburgh 91-74 resulting in Garioch keeping the top spot.

Last Saturday Garioch were without Jason and Colin Banks, Brian Reid, the McDougall twins and Steve Bonner for various reasons.

After a sluggish start in the league fixture at Arbroath, Garioch were 12 shots down after 9 ends.

The team were battling hard in the second half of the match.

The score then was 66-66.

They were actually 6 shots up at 15th end , but then Arbroath fought back, and pulled away scoring 16 shots to 6.

The final score Arbroath 82 - Garioch 72.

Garioch only won on one rink with Steve Buchan winning well 28-12, while Lee Collins lost 16-22.

Alan Rough had a narrow loss 16-18 while Ian Ingram rink was never ahead, and lost by 18 shots.

The score 12-30.

The next fixture is against Buchan on February 4.

This will be a tricky fixture on a fast carpet.

The Garioch Ladies/Turriff team seem to play better in Scottish Ladies KO Cup than they do in the League.

They have just defeated Fraserburgh in the Second Round convincingly.

The score 10 to nil and this on the tricky Aberdeen green.

Liz Fraser defeated M Easten 23-13,

Carol Stuart won 16-9, Glynes Bolt beat the veteran I Wilkin 15-14, while Carla Banks had a great win 28-6.

Teams get 2 points for a rink win with the team with the higher score receiving another 2 points, hence 10-0.

In the first Round the Ladies drew 4-4, i.e. 2 rinks win each side, but they had the better score 6-4 against Stonehaven.

Garioch/Turriff now meet Paisley at Perth this coming weekend for a place in the Quarter Final.
