TEENAGER Jayden Goldie was “buzzing” to get his first goal for Deveronvale in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat against Fraserburgh – although was disappointed to concede a soft penalty quickly after.

The 18-year-old, in his second season at Princess Royal Park, curled in a right-footed shot from the edge of the box to make it 2-1 with 10 minutes to play in Saturday’s game at Bellslea Park.

However, just two minutes later he gave away a spot-kick – which he believes was the wrong decision.

He said: “I was buzzing to score my first goal, I was just outside the box when I fired it in. The goal gave us a bit of hope in the game, but then I conceded the penalty.

“I was kind of in the moment, I was a bit excited. But I felt their player just fell into me, I didn’t think it was a penalty. But they scored and made it 3-1.”

Goldie, who stays in Aberdeen, has enjoyed his spell at Vale – having come through the youth system with a number of other players who have broken into the first side.

He’s been with the club for 18 months, having made his debut at 17. He added: “I went to the Vale 18s development team and from there I was playing some 21s games. It all happened fast for me getting in the first team.

"That was good but obviously I’m still learning as I go along. I’ve seen a lot of self-improvement since I broke into Vale’s first team.

“Jaydan Bradford came through at Westdyke and has broken into the first team with me. Olek (Dlugosz) and Antonio (Jam) were both there as well and have played in the first team. The youth development at the club is strong.

“From when I first joined the first team to now, there’s a better team as a whole. We are all young and there’s plenty of room to improve.”

After Saturday’s cup clash with Fraserburgh, Forres Mechanics are visitors to Vale on September 2.
