The Methlick Cricket Club first team juggernaut continued its unstoppable journey on Saturday at Balmoral against Crathie.

They felt the backlash of the heavy defeat against Methlick Cricket Club's second team last week and revenge was struck with a kingly innings from Adam Veersema, adding an undefeated century to last week’s 89 not out.

Methlick batted first with a usual steady start from its openers with Alasdair Smith and Tom Acton putting on 60 for the first wicket.

Acton fell first for 30 but the scene was then set for Smith and Veersema to punish the bowling on a glorious day for batting.

Surely the batsman of the year trophy will be between these two as once again they racked up the runs.

Veersema was undefeated on 109 as Smith added 89 in a partnership of 130 for the second wicket.

A quickfire 20 from Hordley took the score up to a massive 287 for 5, despite big-hitters Murphy and Rehman missing out.

In reply Crathie faced the slightly changed bowling attack of Acton and Hordley with the latter making the only breakthrough in the first 10 overs removing Morris for five.

The stage was then set for Tim Duffy to show how it is done with his left arm swing taking four wickets for only 10 runs in his nine over spell.

Jamie Jones dipped in after a shaky start with a wicket and Mohamed Rehman helped himself to two.

Little resistance came from Crathie apart from Cunningham (29) and McEwan (also 29) as Methlick despatched the home team for 104 all out, winning by a huge 183 run margin.

Stoneywood Dyce assisted Methlick’s title challenge with an unexpected victory over second place Siyapa, which makes an interesting prospect for next Saturday’s game as the men from Lairds travel to Duthie Park to play Stoneywood in what could be an unexpectedly tight game.

A weakened second team fell short at Lairds as they were defeated by third Gordonians, with Fraser Grant the stand-out batsman scoring 27 for Methlick.

Liam Davies struck back with an excellent 5 for 31 off his 10 overs but it was not enough as Gordonians won by 51 runs.
