KEITH boss Craig Ewen has urged his side to match the performance levels that saw them claim a point against Fraserburgh when they travel to play Brora Rangers this weekend.

The Maroons haven’t played a match in over four weeks due to the wintry weather after claiming a 2-2 draw with the Broch in their last outing in early December.

Games against Clach, Banks O’ Dee and a double header against Huntly all fell victim to the weather but Ewen insists his side are ready to take on the Cattachs despite the lengthy lay-off.

“Brora are top four in the league and I’m sure they still have an eye on trying to win the league,” Ewen said.

“I think if they win their couple of games in hand then they’re maybe just six or seven points back so there is a lot less pressure on us for Saturday.

“Brora are supposed to win the game so the pressure is on them to go and do that.

“We’ll just be looking to go up there and give a good account of ourselves so if we can play our best I’m sure we’ll have a chance of taking something out of it.”

Despite not playing a match for over a month, the Maroons have still been able to train regularly using the indoor facilities at the Aberdeen Sports Village.

And, despite being frustrated by multiple postponements over the past month, Ewen is hopeful of carrying on the good from which saw his side claim four points from their previous two games.

“We were in decent form when we last played,” Ewen said.

“The weather really has wreaked havoc with a lot of games but that’s just part of life in the Highland League.

“We’d just picked up four points before the postponements so we’ll go up there and try and perform in the same manner.

“We’ve been fortunate that we’ve been able to train in Aberdeen as well.

“We’re still going to have a major lack of match fitness though so it’s obviously a very difficult fixture to start with.

“The point against Fraserburgh does give us some encouragement but obviously it will still be a very difficult game.

“I also saw that for the Highland League table for 2022, we finished the year in ninth.

“I think that shows the progress we have made.

“We’ve still got plenty of points to play for so we’ll see where we end up.”

Keith will still be without forwards Nick Gray and Przemyslaw Nawrocki for the visit to Dudgeon Park on Saturday.

Meanhwile, full back Luke Emmet is also a doubt for the game.
