INVERURIE Locos manager Andy Low was delighted with his players' response after they shrugged off a controversial penalty award to record a huge win at title challengers Fraserburgh.

In the 35-year-old's first game since taking permanent charge of the Railwaymen, two Chris Angus strikes proved pivotal on a day where Locos ensured they moved above the Broch in the Highland League table.

And Low hailed the display by saying: “It was a great performance against who I think will be one of the top three teams this year.

“To get the levels we got to eventually, that's the kind of results Locos need to start picking up.

“It's an important one for the lads and their confidence.

On the handball decision against captain Eric Watson, Low said: “I thought it was harsh.

“After the dust settled, we had just scored ourselves and it was maybe a minute later so there was a lot of frustration in it.

“The more I thought to myself, if it was us [in the attacking position] I'd be appealing for it all day long.

“You take the good with the bad, these things even themselves out, the boys reacted well to it.

“It didn't let their heads go down after that incident which was good to see, it was a positive reaction."

Locos have an ominous-looking fixture card coming up, with the visit of Wick Academy this weekend.

But Low has laid the gauntlet down to his players to spark a winning run after besting the Broch: “I said to the guys 'let's get our heads down' as we're coming up to a tough period with the Scottish Cup and we've got Formartine twice.

“But I've got belief in the lads.

“If they turn up on the day, listen to what we are asking of them and play to their capabilities then I think we're a match for anyone in the league.

“We showed that on Saturday."
