BLOWING Turriff United away in the opening stages on Saturday was ‘part of the plan’ for Huntly manager Allan Hale.

The Black and Golds hit three goals in the opening six minutes en route to a 4-2 win at Christie Park, which moved them fourth in the Highland League.

Hale was pleased with the opening to the game, but said there is room for improvement in terms of the overall performance.

“We had a lightning fast start, which was part of the plan we worked on through the week,” he said.

“One of the goals has come from a training session which was really pleasing. We were really intense with our work and made it really difficult for Turriff to get any control over the game.

“Then our shape became disjointed and Turriff went more direct. That made it really difficult because they flooded bodies forward and there was not a lot of structure about it. We were under the cosh until half-time as their tails were up, we were nervous and we lost our composure.

“You have to give a bit of credit to Turriff. It was a really difficult game and Turriff are a really good team, who have also started the season well.

“Last week was a really disappointing result (3-0 vs Buckie), more so the performance. This week although the performance wasn’t perfect, we found a way to win and we’ve got that quality in our team in the forward areas.

Huntly travel to Princess Royal Park to take on Deveronvale this weekend, with Vale coming off the back of a 5-0 defeat at Formartine United.

“The matches between us are always pretty tight,” Hale said.

“They are a young team and have a lot of energy about them. They’ll be fit, aggressive, will work really hard and have some dangerous players in the forward areas. It will be another difficult game.”
