Turriff United were unable to capitalise on their lead after scoring first in a 3-1 defeat against Buckie Thistle.

United opened the scoring when Finlay Murray netted after the break following a scoreless first half in the Highland League match at The Haughs on Saturday afternoon.

However, The Jags managed to come back into the game and late goals from Jack Murray, Max Barry and Jack MacIver secured the victory for them.

Before the match started a minute's silence was held in memory of Gordon Wilson who was heavily involved with United.

Turriff had an early chance when John Allan was through on goal but he was flagged for offside by the linesman.

Buckie then had the ball in the net, however, it was also ruled offside.

United had an opportunity when Jack McKenzie made a decent run, he struck the ball and his shot was blocked by the Thistle defence.

The hosts were enjoying a good spell of pressure and Allan was in a inviting forward position again. The Buckie defence was on him quick and managed to deal with the threat.

The away side started to get a grip on the game with a ball played into Scott Adams who got a header onto it which was straight at Turriff goalkeeper David Dey.

Barry had an opportunity when he hit an effort at goal which was also saved by Dey. He then threatened again striking a shot first time from the left side which went over the crossbar.

Adams had a late chance off a rebound before the break, however, the keeper did well again to deny him.

It was a great start to the second half for United who opened the scoring. A corner was swung into the box and Finlay Murray managed to get on the end of it and netted.

They had a good chance to extend their lead shortly after when Reece McKeown hit a strike which was saved by Thistle goalkeeper Stuart Knight.

Buckie were awarded a free-kick in a good position which was taken by MacIver who hit the ball into the wall.

A pass was then played to Josh Peters whose shot lacked power and was saved by Dey.

At the other end McKenzie hit a great effort on target which was well dealt with by Knight.

A Thistle free-kick was fired into the box from the left side which was headed towards goal by Jack Murray and went over the crossbar.

Peters then pulled off an impressive overhead kick which hit the bar.

Great link-up play from Turriff created an opportunity for substitute Ewan Clark but he was blocked to deny him.

Buckie equalised when a corner was fired into Jack Murray who headed the ball into the net.

United had a chance to regain the lead when Knight made a save but could not hold onto the ball and it fell to Clark who hit his shot over the goal.

A Thistle free-kick was delivered into Sam Pugh who skewed his effort wide of the target.

The visitors then scored their second goal when substitute Marcus Goodall played the ball to Barry who hit a great low strike home.

Buckie came close to scoring a third from a really tight angle, however, the ball crashed off the crossbar.

They got the goal with their next effort when MacIver netted to ensure it was all three points for Thistle.
