THE long trip to Thurso proved to be a profitable one for Buckie Ladies although a much-improved Orkney Women gave them a fright.

Goals from Catie Carter, Alena Gardiner, Rheo Laurenson and Caitlin Carnegie sealed the three points which moves the Buckie side back to the top of the Highlands and Islands League. They sit two points clear of Clach with a game in hand.

The match with Orkney was the first run-out for Buckie since the end of the summer break and saw them trailing 3-2 with 10 minutes to go.

Buckie manager Mel Smith said: "We were really ring rusty, it was our first game since July and it showed.

"To be fair, Orkney have improved a lot and were moving the ball about well.

"It wasn't our best performance but I'm really proud of the way the quines dug deep and got the win, they showed real character.

"At the end of the day, it's the three points that matter."

Next up this coming Sunday is a home clash with third-placed Caley at Merson Park, with an earlier kick-off time of 11.30am. Follow the club Facebook page for the build-up to the game.
