At Lochter Fishery last week there was a surge of youngsters making the most of their last week of holidays by fishing the bait pond.

There is always a frenzy of excitement when a fish is "played in" with the rest of the family all helping out to land it in the net.

It was great to watch this timeless scene being enacted by a new future generation.

On the fly fishing front there was less obvious exuberance but nevertheless plenty effort being applied.

Michael and Liam McDonald fished deeper down in the Muckle Troot loch using either a black or white lure and they consistently connected with fish eventually having a tally of 16 and 12 fish respectively.

Norman Fletcher stuck by his favourite eggstacy thing for his 18 fish, Colin Henderson used his fab and buzzer combination for 15 fish, Mike McLennan had a fab and hopper combination for his 15 fish and N Marchant used a team of buzzers for his 14 fish.

Sandy Gibson had 13 fish on crunchers and diawl bachs, Eric Dickie used just diawl bachs for his 13 fish, W Sim changed between black lures and buzzers for his 12 fish, Fred McAlly used the Bibio or buzzer for nine fish and Kenny Simpson used a hot head damsel to get his eight fish to the net.

The fishery is still open from 8am to dusk.
